FAQ

Please find here important information about the REALfund and the application process. For any further questions feel free to contact us.

What is the deadline for submission of an application?

We accept applications continuously. A decision on the grants will be taken by the REALfund committee at discrete points in time. The deadline for the next decision point can be seen at the Countdown section on the start page of this REALfund website.

What is the format for an application?

The only formal part of the application is the application template which must be filled in and signed by the applicant. The application template can be downloaded from the Apply Now section at the REALfund website.

Appendices to be submitted as well are:

a. abstract / summary of the project proposal; the abstract should be limited to 150 words.

b. detailed description of the planned program including milestones and time planning

c. detailed budget for the program including cost justifications

d. brief CV of the responsible applicant (please limit to max. 2 pages)

e. list of publications from the responsible applicant, additional project members and the institution related to the project (feel free to add any relevant publications in pdf format)

Please note that all application documents must be submitted in English. Applications submitted in other languages cannot be reviewed and will be rejected.

How many pages of text are expected?

Intentionally, there is no lower or upper limit on the number of pages.

The application should give the reviewer a clear and comprehensive picture of the unmet medical need and the innovative step of the proposal, the plan for realisation of the idea as well as budget, timelines and resources needed to meet the objective of the planned program.

Does the REALfund grant cover administrative overhead costs of my institution?

We are aware that many institutions charge administrative overhead costs on research conducted within their facilities. However, the REALfund is primarily aimed at supporting research and development work. Therefore we would very much like to see the grants being spent specifically for direct project work which should be reflected in the detailed budget within the application.

In any case, the maximum amount of money which will be granted is 75.000 Euros.

What is the maximum amount of grant money and what are the conditions?

The REALfund supports research projects with up to 75.000 Euros. Depending on the level of complexity of the proposed program a lower amount of money might be granted by the REALfund committee.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of medical and scientific experts. The result of these reviews will be communicated to the applicants. The decision of the REALfund committee is final, appeal, up to and including judicial review is not permitted.

For further details please see the Guidelines and Conditions part of the Apply Now section.

What would be my obligations/responsibilities if I were to obtain a grant from the REALfund?

a) Obligations regarding project management

Grantees shall conduct their projects according to the state of the art in medicine and according to all applicable laws, including regulations. This includes, but is not limited to the ICH Guidelines on Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and the declaration of Helsinki.

Grantees shall submit written reports to Linde Healthcare. Depending on duration and milestones, interim report(s) shall be submitted which inform on progress of the project as well as how the grant funds are expended. After completion of the project, a final report shall be submitted which is expected to detail the use of the grant funds. Moreover the final report shall describe the progress made toward the purposes of the grant by summarizing the scientific results of the Project.

Details of obligations and responsibilities will be fixed in a formal grant agreement between Linde and the grantees / their respective institution. Grantees also are requested to follow the Linde Code of Ethics which will be made available to the grantees before negotiation of the grant agreement.

b) public media coverage

Linde Healthcare likes to conduct some public media coverage of the REALfund, the grantees, their projects and any kind of award ceremony. For this purpose we like to publish the project title and the corresponding abstract together with grantees’ names and photograph. Details of such publications as well as potential additional PR activities will be coordinated with the grantees.

Which rights will Linde claim on research carried out under the terms of a REALfund grant?

a) Publications

Grantees shall be entitled to publish the results and discoveries resulting from their REALfund projects in accordance with scientific standards and observing the rules of author-/co-authorship. After such publication, Linde likes to be entitled to copy and to distribute the final report free of charge observing the rules of author-/co-authorship usual for scientific publications.

b) Ownership of results

As far as data and results will not be protected by property rights, Linde shall be granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sub-licensable right of use of the results contained in the final report of the project.

If protectable inventions and intellectual properties evolve from the project, Linde would like to have a right of first negotiation. Details of this negotiation will be discussed and handled separately from the REALfund project and agreement under reasonable terms and conditions.

c) Disclaimer

The conduction of the REALfund project as well as the execution of the grant agreement shall not influence the grantees to prescribe, promote, recommend, or require the use of any Linde product, nor shall it influence the grantees and/or their institution to direct business to Linde or to use Linde products or services for any therapy. No expectations whatsoever in this respect exist.
